Ten Degrees and Getting Colder

Cold Sunrise   That's just the name of the song written by Gordon Lightfoot.  It was actually -13 F when I got up this morning (wind chill -24).  Tucson may have pulled back into the lead!  There's a lot of weighing pros and cons of Colorado vs Arizona by the wood stove.  Not much else to report. I did enjoy a few games of pool and a beer with my brother this week.  We don't get together very often, so it's good to try to keep the lines of communication open, especially with my mother celebrating her 86th birthday next month.  He lives in Milwaukee and just started semi-retirement.  Our opposing politics and lifestyles keep things very casual and surface-level.  Not that there's anything wrong with that.   It's important to find common ground.  He and his wife have started going to concerts and recently saw the Steve Miller Band.  Music is one of our common interests.

Colorado Trip: Crosier Mountain Trail

 From June 2021

Hiking in Rocky Mountain National Park is not dog-friendly, so we stopped at the Visitors Center in Estes Park to get hiking recommendations to include Callie.  One of the recommendations was the Crosier Mountain Trail near Glen Haven, Colorado.  There are a couple of different trailheads for this peak.  We started at the Devil's Gulch Road trailhead:  8 miles in and out and 2116' in elevation gain.

It was moderate hiking until the last section when the trail turned very steep.  We passed an older guy from Loveland during the final ascent and later chatted with him at the peak.  He had all kinds of wisdom to share.  One of the things that he told us is that rattlesnakes are not normally found at the elevations present on this trail, but that he almost stepped on a big one near the trailhead the week before.  In his best Clint Eastwood voice, he let us know that he carries a sidearm for varmints and such.  He was kind enough to take our photo.

..and such.

One of Kristen's closest friend's son was among the 13 killed by Herbert Mullin.

I was shot at a few days ago when I stopped by the side of the road. When I pulled forward from behind the trees the guy waved his AR-15 at me.

The rattlers were polite & always gave warning.

Good to see you writing again.

Sorry to hear that. I've only seen one rattlesnake (North Dakota), and it didn't rattle, but it didn't bother us either.

I was not familiar with Herbert Mullin until I looked him up after your comment. That was one messed up dude.
