Winds of March

The winds of March bring change.  I saw my first robins this week while walking along Spring Creek.

My mother turns 86 today.  Happy Birthday, Mom!  We were supposed to go to Iowa for a visit, but she asked us not to come.  She is nursing a bad cold that has lingered for a week.

Julia called the realtor this morning to start the process for listing our house for sale.  We are in the last stages of getting things ready, and there isn't much more that can be done.  I loved this place for many years, but the time and expense for upkeep on an older home with its acres of land isn't that attractive anymore.  Wisconsin winters have also worn us down. With global climate change, less snow and more ice isn't a good trade-off.

We are nervous and excited about the changes ahead. Tucson is drawing further ahead as our next place to land, but we haven't made any final decisions yet and will probably take some time after this place is sold.  Renting for a year in Arizona, Colorado or even Mexico remains a possibility.

Exciting!

Do you feel you need to buy? I can see you leaving San Miguel de Allende at the end of February to spend a month enjoying the big city of Tuscon for 6 weeks until it's too hot. Then heading to Fort Collins to explore around there for the summer. Then reversing it in the fall.

My Canadian friends have been flying to Merida for the past decade. They're thrifty, but enjoy good living; they must've found it affordable down there.

Regardless, it sounds like an adventure!

You can see me doing that, but can you see Julia doing that? :-) She is okay renting for a year, but will want to buy before too long. She is the daughter of two real estate agents and isn't the full-time nomadic type. What we are thinking about in Tucson is to reverse snowbird and spend the long summers traveling at higher elevation and also back here in Wisconsin/Iowa part of the time.

Julia's cousin loved Merida. He's early retired, and spent some time traveling in that area on his own. San Miguel de Allende is expensive and a little too gringo for me. If it was just me, I would be heading for Guanajuato or Atlixco, but Julia worries that her Spanish and ability to become fluent isn't up to the task there. We'll see. If La Paz wasn't so ungodly hot in the summer and facing water issues, that would be a good Mexican compromise, while things shake out in this country. First step is to get the house sold. Then we have flexibility.
