Canton Lake is a Corps of Engineers dam project about ten minutes from the sad little town of Canton, Oklahoma. There’s a Main Street, but most of the businesses are closed, and many of the buildings are falling apart.
We read online that the town has lost about 30 percent of its population in recent years due in part to dwindling economic opportunities. Someone did paint a nice mural.

On the other hand, the COE campground and our lakeside campsite was really nice with full hookups and decent shower facilities for $12.50/night with our Senior Pass.We spent two nights here. By the end of our stay, temps were hitting 100 with added humidity, so it was time to move on.

Are you thinking of getting a boat and/or fishing? Seems as if you're drawn to water.
There're some nice inflatables and even the plastic kayaks from The Martz are pretty cool. Years ago a girlfriend and i kayaked the Rio Grande in her new two-seater. It was great fun. The boat weighed about 70 pds. I was lighter then but between the two of us we were around 350 pds & it did just fine.
I’ve had a bunch of boats ranging from kayak to a power boat with a 180 horse Mercury outboard. No interest in ever owning another boat or going fishing again.
As for being drawn to water, although we are “desert people”now, it has been a nice change of pace to camp lakeside.
I really like the tip-out window! Much more versatile than sliders.

Many - - - many years ago I enjoyed occasionally dropping by the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge, about as far due south of I40 as Canton is north.
We like the tip-out windows too--most of the time. .If it rains straight down, we can keep them open. What I don't like about tip--out windows is that they catch the wind more than the Scamp's slider windows. And it's been a pretty windy trip so far.
