Saying Goodbye to Wisconsin and Friends

We've called Wisconsin home for over fifty years.  With the house inspections in our rear view mirror, it's full steam ahead for our move to Arizona in the latter part of July.

This past weekend, we went to a music festival in Milwaukee called Summerfest.  The primary purpose was to say goodbye to our friends Dave and Ruth, who live in a northern suburb. There wasn't any particular band that we wanted to see.  It was just an excuse to get together.

Friends since sixth grade

Close friends

Dave lived a few doors down from me in the sixth grade. We've never been best friends, but he's the only guy from high school with whom I've stayed in contact.  When we took an organized bike ride together across the state of Wisconsin during the late 80's, he met his wife Ruth.  I stood up in their wedding, and Julia and Ruth both became very good friends.

Dave and Ruth have both lived in the Milwaukee area for their entire lives and have no plans to ever move away.  I hope they will come visit us in Tucson, but I just don't know. Hasta luego, Dave and Ruth.

Just before our Tucson trip, we booked a different campground close to the Wisconsin Dells area.  Things are much better maintained here, but it's pretty far from services and still gets really busy on the weekend. That gets us through to July 12th.  After that, we will spend ten days moving between a couple of county campgrounds that still had openings.  The U-Haul truck is reserved.  Adventures ahead!

I don't know - It's been a long time since we moved and I'm not sure I remember how. If I was moving I might have to sell it all right where it is and start over in the new place. I remember moving from Massachusetts to my new base in Virginia with everything we owned in or on top of a big blue Pontiac boat of a 4-door.

We did sell/give away quite a bit of stuff. I would say we have about 1/3 of the stuff we had at the beginning of the year. Also making the move a little easier is that when we bought the Tucson house, we made the offer contingent upon keeping the living room, dining room, and patio furniture. The sellers upgraded to a much bigger house six months ago and really didn't need it. Having said that, we still have more to move than would fit in a big Pontiac or even one of those Uhaul pull-behind trailers. I don't play the lottery, but I would settle on getting a uhaul truck that doesn't break down on us.

Moving to Arizona in the latter part of July, well, Bless your Hearts you are brave folks from Wisconsin. *Winks* It was 119 here the other day, but Tucson is a bit cooler and, you won't have to shovel Sunshine come Winter either, so, there's that. Transition is hard when you've lived somewhere so long tho'. You did an admirable job on your Purge, I had a ridiculous amount of Cargo still to tote to this Property and my Great Edit and Purge to downsize seems like it won't get done in my actual Lifetime. *Le Sigh but, Oh Well.*

Yeah, it's going to be an interesting change in climate. But I'm kinda looking forward to the challenge of Arizona summer.
