Las Cruces: Hiking and Weather

 From February 2022:

Two important things to us in retirement are outdoor opportunities and good weather during the winter. Las Cruces did not disappoint.  The weather during our stay was absolutely beautiful:  warm days and cool nights.  The dry climate suits me.

On February 9th, we enjoyed a typical day for our ideal retirement.

After eating breakfast, we walked from our airbnb to a local coffee roaster, Beck's, and enjoyed a coffee on the outside patio.  Good coffee, and I could smell the roast that morning coming out from the chimney pipe.

Then we took a long walk together on the multi-pupose trail at La Llorona Park along the dry riverbed of the Rio Grande.

Lunch was a sandwich and local IPA on the outdoor patio at Bosque Brewing on Arizona State's campus.

In the afternoon, we hiked the short but steep Tortuga Mountain via the Turtleback Trail.

If outdoor opportunities and weather were the only two factors to consider for a retirement place, Las Cruces would score very highly.  However, other facets of the city were less desirable to us. We will look at those considerations in future posts.
